The call of the bell

These Buddhist teachings can be studied, as we study all kinds of knowledge. Sometimes, when we read a few words or an idea, we feel our hearts or our minds are more open. We might feel that a weight we are carrying does not feel quite o heavy, or that we have a way to soothe a conflict with a friend or a family member. We can feel grateful that a few simple words brings us a feeling of lightness or relief. Reading a few words or hearing an idea, we have taken a first step on a lovely path of awakening.

Thầy tells us that there are Five Spiritual Powers. The notion of spiritual power sounds mystical and unworldly, but the Buddha taught these powers are practical skills we can cultivate, and many simple ways for us to cultivate them. The first of these powers is Faith: not faith in an idea or theory, but the confidence that comes from the results of our practice.

The second Spiritual Power is Diligence.
